Occupational therapy (OT) is a form of treatment in which there is the use of purposeful activities for individuals who are affected by physical injuries or illness, psychosocial dysfunction, developmental or learning disabilities of the aging process. The object of this form of therapy is maximizing independence, preventing disability and maintaining health. Occupational therapy generally aims at encouraging the development of physical, sensory, perceptual, cognitive and social abilities of the person for enhancing independent functioning.

Under Occupational Therapy we treat beneficiaries with:

  • Physical Occupational Therapy
  • Developmental Occupational Therapy
  • Psychiatric Occupational Therapy

Physical Occupational Therapy involves treatment of various conditions such as fracture complications, amputations, crushed hands, spinal cord injury, head injury, stroke, burns, leprosy, polio and other conditions that lead to disabilities. These conditions require a graded program of activities for restoring functions.

Developmental Occupational Therapy involves the treatment of various conditions found amongst children such as cerebral palsy, mental retardation, learning disabilities, spina bifida. It enhances neuromuscular, sensory integrative, perceptual-motor, and cognitive components of the child with a disability.

Psychiatric Occupational Therapy involves the treatment of conditions such as schizophrenia, manic depressive psychosis, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and other psychiatric illnesses. Activity programs are designed as part of diversional therapy.
